For this assignment, we explored Skype in the Classroom and chose two Guests Speakers and two virtual field trips relevant to our school community.
Microsoft Education – Skype in the Classroom
Guest Speakers –
1. A Specific Person’s Name is Not Listed
World’s Largest Lesson for age 6+, but maybe best for grade 3 and up
-This would be a great inspiration for human-centred design thinking for ADST, with a nice overlap for Career Ed (goal setting). Their mission is to “ensure all children are aware of the Global Goals and to unite them into action to achieve the goals”.
2. Abdelrahman Othman
National Museum of Egyptian Civilization for grade 7
-This would be a great guest speaker for the grade 7’s learning about Ancient Civilizations. This would allow students to see the meaning of Egyptian culture and looks at Egyptian civilization from prehistory to the present day.
Virtual Field Trips –
1. Amazing Animal Adaptations for grade 3 students
-Students will compare habitats and animal adaptations. This aligns nicely with the grade 3 biodiviersity unit competencies and content.
ISTE Standard 7a – “Students use digital tools to connect with learners from a variet of backgrounds and cultures, engaging with them in ways that broaden mutual understanding and learning.”
2. Aviation Careers for grade 6/7 students
-Students will explore the training and education needed to be a pilot and will explore career paths in aviation. This aligns nicely with the grade 6/7 curriculum to explore different career options.
ISTE Standard – 7d – “Students explore local and global issues and use collaborative technologies to work with others to investigate solutions.”
